Hercules (2006)

Hercules is a stop animation created from scanned images created on a flatbed scanner. The images were produced by spitting onto the scanner's plate, manipulating the bubbles slowly, step-by-step, into a replication of a bust of Hercules featured in an art historical textbook. The work, done with a tiny paintbrush, is labour-intensive and futile. The saliva dries rapidly, moves about, melts the image. The animation, therefore, is a struggle to produce the perfect image from the artist's body.
